Brigadier General Richard R. McPhee

Brigadier General Richard R. McPhee was assigned as the Chief of Staff, First Army, on January 7, 2008.General McPhee was commissioned a Second Lieutenant aftergraduating from the United States Military Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree.   

He received a Master of Science Degree from The State University of New York.In 1979, General McPhee began his Army career with the 6th Battalion, 80th Field Artillery,7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord, California. General McPhee has served in a variety of field and command assignments to include duty as: Commander, B Battery, 6th Battalion, 80th FieldArtillery; Assistant S-3 (Operations), later Fire Control Officer, Division Artillery, 2d Infantry Division, Eight United States Army, Korea; Assistant Fire Support Coordinator , VII Corps,United States Army Europe, Germany and OPERATION DESERT SHIELD/STORM,Saudi Arabia; S-3, 5th Battalion, 3d Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; S-3,17thField Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill Oklahoma; Training Officer, Office of the Deputy Chief ofStaff for Training, Fifth United States Army, Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Deputy Fire Support Coordinator, later Executive Officer, Division Artillery, 24th Infantry Division (Mechanized),later redesignated 3d Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia; Commander, 5th Battalion, 3dField Artillery, Fort Sill, Oklahoma; Commander, 75th Field Artillery Brigade, Fort Sill,Oklahoma and OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM, Iraq; Chief of Staff, 24th Infantry Division,Fort Riley, Kansas and Deputy Commander (South) First United States Army, Fort Jackson,South Carolina.  

His Joint Assignments include J-5, Plans Officer, later Chief, Military Cooperations Branch,Training and Exercises Division, J-7, Joint Headquarters Centre, Allied Command Europe,Germany and Kosovo Forces, Kosovo; Deputy Chief of Staff for Operations, J3 Allied JointForce Command-Naples.General McPhee’s military education includes Field Artillery Officer Basic Course, Infantry  Officer Advanced Course; United States Army Command and General Staff College, and United States Army War College.  

His awards and decorations include The Defense Superior Service Medal; Legion of Merit w/Oak Leaf Cluster; Bronze Star Medal w/Oak Leaf Cluster; Defense Meritorious Service Medal; Meritorious Service Medal w/7 Oak Leave Clusters; Army Achievement Medal; Parachutist Badge; and Ranger Tab.
